Description
TONE MATCH PRESETS, CAPTURES, CLONES, AND PROFILES
The Match PHNX presets and captures are based on a Matchless Phoenix 35. The Phoenix 35 is a two channel EL34 powered amplifier from Matchless that is capable of rich clean to aggressive driven tones. It has everything we love about a classic C-30 (clarity, touch sensitivity, and chime for days) but with some more sizzle, hair, and a bit more mids, giving you a wider range of tones at your fingertips. UK chime with a nod to the UK grind.
We have captured and tone matched the amp through three different cabs as well as direct. For capture units, we’ve included 32 captures, and for preset units we’ve included two sets of presets and three tone-matched IR’s.
We’ve captured the amp through four different cabs using legendary microphones and preamps, as well as direct.
LINE 6 STADIUM (PROXY)
For Stadium and Stadium XL, we’ve cloned the amp using Proxy. The Stadium downloads include both presets and a full set of 32 Proxy clones.
TONE MATCH PATCHES (Applies to Line 6 HX and Fractal presets)
These are part of our ‘Tone Match’ line of patches. To create these patches, we make custom IR’s that ‘match’ the HX and Fractal amp models to our real-world amp. The result is the Line 6 and Fractal units sound almost exactly like our actual amplifiers.
The ‘Gen2’ indicates a new process we’ve used when Tone Matching our amplifiers that takes more of the amplifier’s cab and speaker into account, resulting in a more accurate tone match impulse response.
PRESETS INFO
(Applies to Line 6 HX, Fractal, Quad Cortex units)
The pack includes 2 sets of presets (each with SC and HB options). The presets are labeled ‘A’ and ‘B’, and feature different approaches to signal chain and amp channels.
‘A PRESETS: The ‘A’’ presets feature two amp blocks set up in a stereo pair with all the wet effects feeding into the amps. Think of it like running a large stereo pedalboard into two amplifiers set on the ‘edge of breakup’.
‘B’ PRESETS: In the ‘B’ presets, the modulation, delay, and reverb effects are placed after the single (mono) amplifier block. This replicates a studio setting where all the modulation, delay, and reverb effects are applied after the amplifier.
SNAPSHOTS/SCENES
Our presets include Snapshots for instant access to a wide variety of tones, including clean sounds, ambient tones, driven, lead, and high gain sounds, and modulated tones.
NOTES:
- The HX Stomp, POD Go, and FM3 folders include ‘FX” presets. These presets include the additional effects blocks from the full Helix/Axe-FX versions. Because these units have signal flow and DSP limitations, they are not as fully featured as the flagship units.
- Fractal AM4 presets include a block library download that gives you access to many of our favorite effects already dialed in.
- POD GO & AM4 Users: Because POD Go cannot utilize two amp blocks in a single preset, we’ve delivered one set of presets.
- The HX Stomp presets do not include Snapshots/Scenes.
IR Cab Labels:
- HM = Matchless 2×12 cab with mismatched Scumback H75 + M75 speakers
- ESS = Matchless 1×12 cab with a Matchless/Celestion G12H30
- ES412 = 94 Matchless 4×12 cab with Matchless Celestion Vintage 30s
CAPTURES & PROFILES
(Applies to Line 6 Stadium, TONEX, Quad/Nano Cortex, Kemper)
The captures increase through the entire gain range of the amp. We’ve delivered 32 total captures, including four speaker options as well as direct captures.
The captures are numbered, and the number corresponds to the level of gain in the tone model. Lower numbers equal lower gain, and higher numbers equal higher gain. Typically a ‘2’ or ‘3’ is the ‘edge of breakup’, and is the perfect option to use with pedals.
TONEX, Quad Cortex, and Kemper are all using the ‘V2’ capture process/technology
Capture Labels:
- HM = Matchless 2×12 cab with mismatched Scumback H75 + M75 speakers
- ESS = Matchless 1×12 cab with a Matchless/Celestion G12H30
- ES412 = 94 Matchless 4×12 cab with Matchless Celestion Vintage 30s
- Dir = Direct (no cab)
QUAD/NANO CORTEX V2 Captures & Presets – HOW DO YOU GET THE CAPTURES?
When you place your order, we will need to manually send you the captures through the ‘Cortex Cloud’ app by Neural DSP, available for both iOS and Android devices. First, you need to have the app installed and you must have an account through the app (go here to create an account and access the app).
This is how we will send you the captures:
- Please include your Cortex Cloud app username in the ‘Notes’ field when checking out. If you do not include this, we cannot send you the captures. After we receive your order, we (SignalTheory) will follow you on the app.
- Follow ‘SignalTheory’ on the Cortex Cloud app. This will make us ‘friends’ through the app :). If you are not following us, we cannot send you the captures.
- After we receive your order, and we ‘Friends’ on the app, we will send you the captures through the app. We bundle the captures into presets, so you will receive one (or more) presets that include all the captures. You will find the captures in the ‘Shared with me’ section on your Quad Cortex.
- Please allow up to 5 business days for us to send you the captures. Most orders will be fulfilled within two business days or less. This fulfillment process must happen manually – we will do our best to get you the files quickly. Once the NDSP marketplace opens, this process may change.
NAM (A2) Captures
Includes 30 captures with the same cab and direct options
CAB DETAILS
- For capture units (Stadium/Proxy, TONEX, Quad Cortex, and Kemper), you’ll get separate captures through each cab, as well as direct captures.
- For modeling units (Line 6 and Fractal), you’ll get separate Tone-Matched IR files which you can swap into the cab block(s) to switch cabs. There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ cab options – simply audition each cab and pick your favorite (or mix/match them). You do not necessarily need to make any adjustments to the amp block(s) when switching IR cabs.

Just picked this up today and all I can say is WOW! So so so good. I love Matchless Amps (captures because I can’t afford a real one!! haha). This one exceeded my expectations. It just has a different feel to it that I can’t put my finger on, but it’s oh so good! Will definitely be using this one at church VERY soon. Great job fellas! Thank you for all you do! God Bless!

Very nice! Been using/loving the Matchless Chieftain capture and presents up ’til now. The Phoenix single coil presets sound sooooo sweet with my Gretsch Jet. Not sure what you did here – just keep doing it. Impressive!

Fantastic sound and projection! This is an excellent addition to my Matchless amp captures. Well done, guys!

I’m familiar with Signal Theory because I’ve been a faithful customer of Worship Tutorials for 8 years! I have nearly every song preset and now amp model and proxy clone Signal Theory has created. All of these amps have their own unique sound and tone and you guys capture the tones very well! Many thanks for all you do to make guitarists who play worship team music a little easier to navigate. Many thanks, Jeff

I’m a long time fan of Matchless amps–but have never been able to afford one. Today, I used this profile in our worship service and received a ton of compliments on my guitar sound and playing. Super inspired playing through this one. Keep ’em coming guys. Great resource to work with.

Longtime customer, have purchased many captures from you guys, but this one is definitely one of the best. just like others have said I really can’t put my finger on it, but the sound and feel on the strings is amazing on my FM9. I played it at church today through a beat up telecaster. 🙂 Rock on

I love Matchless amps!
This one is very unique! Reminiscent of a DC 30… but unique… These clones are OUTSTANDING, as are all of the products that the guys at Signal Theory produce!

What an amazing patch,
Why buy the amp when the patch is practically free and the proxy clone is a dead ringer!!
Total delight from this Sunday six string slinger!!

This is my new favorite matchless patch from SignalTheory! The perfect combination of chime & grit! Fits well in a mix! The guys are putting out the BEST helix patches on the market!

My favorite one for QC so far!!! Not too bright, not too dark, really good options for FX and this one is very easy and close to how I love the FX to sound!

Great captures. I love a DC-30 I have and use it a lot. Phoenix turns out to be extremely similar – I was hoping that it would be markedly different. This is so close that I probably wouldn’t buy it if I knew. Still, it is a slight but interesting variation and most of all a equally great patch in its own right.

Great sounding and great feeling capture. Am using it with the 2×12 cab and sure it will sound great in the mix. Cant wait to play it live

These sound fantastic. I’ve been a Fender & Vox guy most of my life, but this Matchless blew my mind. Great tone with multiple guitars, not too chimey and not too dark, it’s got girth too it, yet cleans up very nicely as well. The presets that are included are also great launching points for tone inspiration. Well done gentlemen, well done!

I’m still pretty new to Helix in 2026. I know, get with the program. I’m a pedalboard/vintage amp guy. Anyway, this one really sounds great. I’ve owned vintage Fender & Marshall tube amps but never a Matchless so I’m really loving having the ability to hear some different amps. I’ve tried other sims that sound pretty good. Signal Theory packs really sound authentic and they’re so much fun to play. I absolutely love this pack. What a great sounding amp! Well done guys. I’m hooked! I used this amp for a couple songs at church today and it sounded awesome!

This is my favorite so far – love all the ones I’ve downloaded – always great, but this one I find works really well for all of my guitars- well done!!

Matchless Amps are on the helix I by far my favorite. I have not been disappointed with the patches you create, but this tone got the congregation to notice me. I switched the back and fore of the A and B presets the response was awesome. The IR’s and drive pedals just seem to flow together with the Push and felt the energy behind it.

Great capture – chimy, but with a good body. Used it last Sunday at service and it sounded great. Definitely going to be one of my key presets

This ToneMatch preset (for Helix) is fantastic – Matchless never disappoints! Used it immediately on a couple recordings. It covers so much ground – has so many great tone options that fit perfectly into the mix. Looking forward to using it live and at church soon too!

I wasn’t familiar with Matchless amps until all of the captures on this site, but they are all amazing. THe Phoenix sounds great, its like a beefier C30. It has the chime and the grit if you like your worship guitar a little more on the heavy side and pairs great with the Benson Chimera!

This is simply the best sounding Amp I’ve ever heard. I’m pairing it with the Z80 in stereo on the quad cortex and the tone is chimey from the matchless and a bit warmer from the Z80. This combo will cut through any mix and when you back out of the pick attack, it cleans up nicely. I’m using the #2 setting for each amp, which is edge of breakup. Use a set of TV Jones Super’Trons in your guitar and you’ll be in heaven. It’s so good, I bought them for my ToneX pedals too.

Wow!! …not sure if I’ve already reviewed this one–but I have now used this one twice for services. It’s definitely up there in my favs. Great Tone Match!! Love, love, love Matchless amps–but not in my budget and definitely not something I would ever want to have to cart around IRL. Great preset; needed very little customization to add into my library of “Go To” tones. Y’all knocked it out of the park with this one! Thank you! 😀

I bought this to pair with some Bad Cat amps that I have in the helix and I must say this amp is amazing as a stand alone. Im a big fan of the matchless stuff. The team hit it out of the park with this patch.
