MARS AFD – Tone Match Gen2 Presets and Captures

TONE MATCH Gen2 PATCHES, CAPTURES, AND PROFILES OF A MARSHALL AFD100

For these patches, we’ve captured a Marshall AFD100 amplifier. The result is a set of presets and captures that sound exactly like our amp, and the microphones, preamps, and EQ chains that we use to record it.

The AFD100 is Slash’s signature amplifier with Marshall. It is meant to replicate the amp famously used to record the Appetite For Destruction album. Tune to Eb and hit an A chord – sounds EXACTLY like the record.

We captured the amp through our Marshall Super 100 JH (1982B) 4×12 and through a Marshall Silver Jubilee 4×12 cab using a Royer 121 and Earthworks SR25 through a Neve 1073 DPX stereo preamp.

TONE MATCH (Gen 2) PATCHES (Applies to Line 6 and Fractal presets)

These are part of our ‘Tone Match’ line of patches. To create these patches, we make custom IR’s that ‘match’ the HX and Fractal amp models to our real-world amp. The result is the Line 6 and Fractal units sound almost exactly like our actual amplifiers.

The ‘Gen2’ indicates a new process we’ve used when Tone Matching our amplifiers that takes more of the amplifier’s cab and speaker into account, resulting in a more accurate tone match impulse response.

PRESETS INFO

(Applies to Line 6 HX, Fractal, and Quad Cortex units)

The pack includes 3 sets of presets. The presets are labeled ‘M’, ‘SJ’ and ‘PDUB’, and feature different approaches to signal chain and amp channels.

M PRESET: We captured and tone matched the amp through a Marshall 1982B JH cab with Celestion G12C speakers. This cab is the warmer of the two options.

SJ PRESET: This includes the Silver Jubilee 4×12 cab, and it slightly brighter and more aggressive sounding. They both sound great, but this one sounds a bit more like Slash.

PDUB PRESETS: These presets feature at JTM45 amp block set clean and the AFD100 settings for the rhythm and lead tones.  We’ve given you a foot switch that allows you to switch between the amp blocks. This lets you go from a clean tone to an aggressive rhythm tone. These presets have more options for clean tones, and are more suited for styles of music that need a wider variety of gain staging (like Praise and Worship, aka ‘PDub’).

NOTE: The HX Stomp, POD Go, and FM3 folders include ‘FX” presets. These presets include the additional effects blocks from the full Helix/Axe-FX versions. Because these units have signal flow and DSP limitations, they are not as fully featured as the flagship units.

SNAPSHOTS/SCENES

Our presets include Snapshots for instant access to a wide variety of tones, including clean sounds, ambient tones, driven, lead, and high gain sounds, and modulated tones.

NOTE: The HX Stomp presets do not include Snapshots.

CAPTURES & PROFILES

(Applies to TONEX, Quad Cortex, and Kemper units)

CAPTURE LABELS:

• M = Marshall 1982B Cab
• SJ = Marshall 2551 AV Silver Jubilee Cab
• Dir = Direct capture (you’ll need to add an IR to these)
• ‘Slash’ = the amp was dialed in using Slash’s live settings
• Lo = Low input

NUMBERS

The Tone Model presets are numbered, and the number corresponds to the level of gain in the tone model. Lower numbers equal lower gain, and higher numbers equal higher gain.

The captures increase through the entire gain range of the amp. We’ve delivered 12 total captures

QUAD/NANO CORTEX – HOW DO YOU GET THE CAPTURES?

When you place your order, we will need to manually send you the captures through the ‘Cortex Cloud’ app by Neural DSP, available for both iOS and Android devices. First, you need to have the app installed and you must have an account through the app (go here to create an account and access the app).

This is how we will send you the captures:

1. Please include your Cortex Cloud app username in the ‘Notes’ field when checking out. If you do not include this, we cannot send you the captures. After we receive your order, we (SignalTheory) will follow you on the app.
2. Follow ‘SignalTheory’ on the Cortex Cloud app. This will make us ‘friends’ through the app :). If you are not following us, we cannot send you the captures.
3. After we receive your order, and we ‘Friends’ on the app, we will send you the captures through the app. We bundle the captures into presets, so you will receive one (or more) presets that include all the captures. You will find the captures in the ‘Shared with me’ section on your Quad Cortex.
4. Please allow up to 5 business days for us to send you the captures. Most orders will be fulfilled within two business days or less. This fulfillment process must happen manually – we will do our best to get you the files quickly. Once the NDSP marketplace opens, this process may change.
