Description
TONE MATCH PATCHES, CAPTURES, AND PROFILES OF OUR ’94 (SAMPSON-ERA) MATCHLESS S/C-30

For these presets and captures, captured our 1994 (Sampson-era) Matchless C-30 amplifier. The result is a set of Tone Match impulse responses and captures that sound exactly like our amp, and the microphones, preamps, and EQ chains that we use to record it.
The C-30 from Matchless is absolutely a legendary amp. It features two channels, with the ability to jumper both channels together. Channel 1 (12ax7) is similar to the brilliant channel of a Top Boost AC30, but it sounds better than any AC30 you’ve ever heard, from any era. Channel 2 (EF86) is bigger, thicker, and has more gain. Jumping the channels together gives you characteristics of both.
We have tone-matched all three channel options, and delivered separate patches for all three. Simply put, this is one of the best amps – and the best set of patches – we’ve ever heard.
TONE MATCH (Gen 2) PATCHES (Applies to Line 6 and Fractal presets)
These are part of our ‘Tone Match’ line of patches. To create these patches, we make custom IR’s that ‘match’ the HX and Fractal amp models to our real-world amp. The result is the Line 6 and Fractal units sound almost exactly like our actual amplifiers.
The ‘Gen2’ indicates a new process we’ve used when Tone Matching our amplifiers that takes more of the amplifier’s cab and speaker into account, resulting in a more accurate tone match impulse response.
PRESETS INFO
(Applies to Line 6 HX, Fractal, Quad Cortex, and Headrush units)
The pack includes fully featured presets designed for both single coil and humbucker equipped guitars.
You get three sets of presets, one based on the 12ax7 channel, one based on the EF86 channel, and one based on the jumped channels. (AM4 includes just the 12ax7 and EF86 channels).
SNAPSHOTS/SCENES
Our presets include Snapshots for instant access to a wide variety of tones, including clean sounds, ambient tones, driven, lead, and high gain sounds, and modulated tones.
NOTES:
- The HX Stomp, POD Go, and FM3 folders include ‘FX” presets. These presets include the additional effects blocks from the full Helix/Axe-FX versions. Because these units have signal flow and DSP limitations, they are not as fully featured as the flagship units.
- AM4 presets include ‘Block Library’ files to give you access to dozens of different effects, all perfectly dialed in
- The HX Stomp presets do not include Snapshots.
- Headrush presets include amp clones
CAPTURES & PROFILES
(Applies to TONEX, Quad Cortex, and Kemper units)
The captures increase through the entire gain range of the amp for all three channel options.
The captures are numbered, and the number corresponds to the level of gain in the tone model. Lower numbers equal lower gain, and higher numbers equal higher gain. Typically a ‘2’ or ‘3’ is the ‘edge of breakup’, and is the perfect option to use with pedals
You get a total of 12 captures for Kemper and Quad Cortex (Tonex includes Direct captures, for a total of 24)
TONEX Captures:
These captures were created using the ‘V2’ capture process, which was introduced with Tonex Ver. 1.10. This means that these captures represent the highest possible level of accuracy, and are phase aligned with all other ‘V2’ captures.
Capture Labels:
- MV30 = Matchless x12 S/C-30 cab loaded with a Matchless/Celestion Vintage 30 (original from ’94)
- Dir = Direct (no cab)
QUAD/NANO CORTEX – HOW DO YOU GET THE CAPTURES?
When you place your order, we will need to manually send you the captures through the ‘Cortex Cloud’ app by Neural DSP, available for both iOS and Android devices. First, you need to have the app installed and you must have an account through the app (go here to create an account and access the app).
This is how we will send you the captures:
- Please include your Cortex Cloud app username in the ‘Notes’ field when checking out. If you do not include this, we cannot send you the captures. After we receive your order, we (SignalTheory) will follow you on the app.
- Follow ‘SignalTheory’ on the Cortex Cloud app. This will make us ‘friends’ through the app :). If you are not following us, we cannot send you the captures.
- After we receive your order, and we ‘Friends’ on the app, we will send you the captures through the app. We bundle the captures into presets, so you will receive one (or more) presets that include all the captures. You will find the captures in the ‘Shared with me’ section on your Quad Cortex.
- Please allow up to 5 business days for us to send you the captures. Most orders will be fulfilled within two business days or less. This fulfillment process must happen manually – we will do our best to get you the files quickly. Once the NDSP marketplace opens, this process may change.

Great sound and very close to my Matchless. Very inspiring to play. The included block presets were a real bonus and extremely usable and useful for my workflow. I have my eye on the Match Chief now.

Thank you Martin! We find the Chief works really well paired with the C30 in a stereo set up. Glad you’re loving it!

I use the old Matchless Pod Go patch they made on WT at church regularly to get that worship lead guitar tone. I’m excited to try this one out at Church as well! I love all the patches they make! And it’s great to be able to switch between the channels on the Amp with the 3 separate patches provided.

Really sweet tones that slide nicely into a mix.

From the moment I downloaded this patch, I knew this was THE ONE. The single best capture I’ve ever played!

So glad y’all made this for V2 ToneX. It sounds so so good! Can’t wait to use it on stage at my church! You guys are definitely in my top 3 for captures! Keep up the amazing work and thank you!

The C30 captures/presets are probably the most versatile and dynamic presets I have ever used. I have them for Helix, Tonex, and now Neural. They are warm, clean up spectacularly and respond beautifully to internal or external drive pedals. These are my go-to for P&W as well as an indispensible tool when recording in the studio.
